What are the full time Diploma programs that you offer?

We offer three separate and distinct 2 year Diploma Technology Programs -

Radio

Television Broadcast Journalism

When can I apply?

A: You can apply to the Broadcast and Media Communications full time two year diploma programs in Radio, Television and Broadcast Journalism after October 1 each year for the following September intake.  We do not maintain a hold list from year to year.  If you want to reapply, you can contact the Admissions Office and ask that they retain your application for the following year.

How many people apply each year and how many are accepted?

The number of applicants for the three programs - Radio, Television and Broadcast Journalism - is usually around 450 each year.  We accept a total of 40 students into the first year of each program, for a total of 120 students accepted each year.

How can I get an Application Form?   You can DOWNLOAD the application form in PDF format (requires Adobe Acrobat)   or  you can apply online by clicking here.

There is a Non-refundable application fee of $60 for each occasion that you apply at BCIT.

What do I need to include in my application?

In addition to the Application Form and the non-refundable application fee of $60, you must supply the following:

1) 500 word essay

The purpose of this essay is to determine what you've done so far in your career, what you want to achieve and the steps you've taken up to now to achieve these goals.  If you're still uncertain of your final career path, don't be afraid to say so, but tell us where you "think" you're headed, and what you've done so far to get there.

2)  Resume

What kind of work have you done to date in your career?  What kind of hobbies do you have? These don't have to be media related.

3) Minimum 2 Letters of recommendation.

These letters of recommendation don't have to be from someone in the media business.  Give us letters of recommendation from your teachers, your hockey coach, your current or previous employer.  We feel that if you are a good employee, no matter what the job, you will make a good applicant

4) Transcripts of grades

We require a certified true copy of your Grade 12 marks as well as any post secondary transcripts. These transcripts must be sent directly to the Office of the Registrar from you educational institution. Contact the Admissions Office directly if you have any special considerations, such as foreign student documentation.

When do you look at my application?

The Admissions Department assembles all the components of your application as outlined above.
When it is complete,
it is forwarded to the Broadcast & Media Department for consideration. If you fail to complete your application, it is not received by the Department.

What is the Broadcast Entrance Examination?

When your application is complete, you will be asked to come to BCIT, or make another arrangement if you live outside the Lower Mainland, in order to write a special exam designed by our Department. The results of this exam will help determine your standing in the application process. You will receive a list of available exam times, and you will be responsible for contacting the department directly to book into an exam time. The written examination is mandatory in order to enter the Broadcast & Media Communications programs. For more information about the examination, click HERE See the LARGE MAP of BCIT (PDF FILE)  if you need directions.

Is there an interview?

Some of our programs require a personal interview with potential students. When we have reviewed your completed application package and your examination results, we may contact you to set up a personal interview. In the event that you are unavailable for an interview due to distance, we may arrange a telephone conference call.

What is the deadline for applying?

Generally we accept applications from potential candidates until the last week of April each year. We complete our final selection process approximately the first week in June.
